One of Japan’s topmost neighborhood issue is probably garbage collection. There are few things worse than having a garbage bag declined by the city collectors for non-compliance, and remaining on the roadside for all to see. It makes a huge difference, as the collection calendar can be mind-boggling when you’re away when collection happens, and you need to drop designated bags before 8:30 am. Some categories are only collected once a month in Kiryu:
In Kiryu, we are only two weeks from the twice-yearly cleaning operation, during which all inhabitants need to remove the weeds in front of their homes. With roads on three sides of the house and a side alley in the South side, it was a time-consuming work. Luckily, the kids were very helpful.
We are ready for the spring cleaning day on May 26th.
